Conselleria de Educación Valencia: Everything from experience

Conselleria de Educación Valencia: Everything from experience

There are things that mark a life, and for me, Carlos Hidalgo, one of those has been the Conselleria de Educación de Valencia. I've been in the educational world for years, and if I have learned anything, is that this body is a fundamental pillar for the education of the Valencian Community. But what really is the Conselleria de Educación, how does it work and why should you care? Let's break it down as if you were in front of a good coffee and your notebook ready to learn.

What is the Conselleria de Educación de Valencia?

In simple terms, the Conselleria de Educación, Universidades y Empleo (yes, it has a long name, but loaded with responsibility) is the body of the Generalitat Valenciana in charge of education and training. From planning educational policies to overseeing universities and vocational training, this body covers it all. It is like the brain of the Valencian education system, designing strategies that affect everything from your neighborhood school to the university where you graduated.

Why does it matter so much? Because in its hands lies the future of thousands of students and professionals. From the school curriculum, to educational inclusion policies, to teaching innovation projects such as the LliureX program, everything passes through its offices.

The Structure that Makes it Work

The Conselleria is not a monolithic entity. It is made up of several general directorates, each specializing in a specific area. Here are the most relevant:

  1. Dirección General de Centros Docentes: It is in charge of everything related to school infrastructures and the management of educational places.
  2. Dirección General de Innovación e Inclusión Educativa: It sounds technical, but basically it works so that all students, regardless of their abilities, have access to quality education.
  3. Dirección General de Formación Profesional: Because not everyone wants (or needs) to go to university, and this directorate is clear about that.
  4. Secretaría Autonómica de Universidades e Investigación: Everything related to universities and research projects goes through here.

My Relationship with the Conselleria de Educación

This is where my personal experience comes in. As a teacher, I have seen firsthand the effects of their policies. For example, the Edificant program, which seeks to improve educational infrastructures. Thanks to this, many schools that looked like something out of a 1970s movie have been completely renovated.

Also, the Conselleria is not just about the technical. When my school faced challenges with special needs students, it was this agency that provided us with the necessary resources and tools. From specific programs to specialized personnel, they always strive to be up to the task, although of course, like everything in life, they also have their shadows.

Polemics and Challenges

Not everything is rosy. As in any public administration, there are challenges that the Conselleria faces year after year. One of the most recent has been the implementation of free classrooms for children from 0 to 3 years old. Although it is an ambitious and positive project, it has brought tensions between public and private schools.

There is also the eternal struggle to improve educational quality while optimizing the budget. As a teacher, I have encountered overcrowded classrooms and limited resources, something that clearly needs more attention.

What's Coming: The Valencian Educational Future

The Conselleria is betting on digitalization and sustainability. Programs such as Mestre a Casa and the aforementioned LliureX demonstrate that they are in tune with the needs of the digital era. In addition, they are working on strengthening inclusive education and promoting more opportunities for vocational training.

My Final Opinion

If there is one thing I can tell you, it is that the Conselleria de Educación de Valencia is not perfect, but it is indispensable. Through its policies, tools and resources, it transforms not only classrooms, but also the lives of thousands of people. And although at times I have wanted to throw in the towel because of bureaucracy or limitations, I know that their work is crucial to building a better society.
