Educa UNIVERSITY|EDUCATION
Since I entered the world of education in Madrid, I have seen changes, obstacles and successes regarding the role of education staff. I am not just a spectator: I am Carlos Hidalgo, and I have experienced firsthand the impact of education staff in Madrid. Today I will tell you the good, the bad and what we could improve, because this topic I am passionate about and, as you will see, it affects both teachers and families and, of course, our students.
We are talking about all the people who make up the education system in the Comunidad de Madrid. They are not only teachers, but also advisors, coordinators and administrative staff who make sure that education is not just a nice word on a piece of paper. Each member has a mission: from primary school teachers to counselors working on special projects for students with specific needs. This set of professionals is responsible for running such important programs as emotional and academic support for vulnerable youth.
Teachers and Teachers
They are the visible face in the classrooms, the ones who teach classes on a daily basis. But their function goes beyond teaching. They act as guides, mentors, and sometimes even informal psychologists for their students.
Technical Teaching Advisors (TTAs)
These professionals are not in the classroom, but their work is crucial. From implementing programs such as mental health in schools to coordinating inclusion projects for students with difficulties, ATDs are the "backstage" for many of the improvements we see in schools.
Administrative Staff
Here I pause for a moment. While we tend to overlook them, administrative staff are the ones who are responsible for processing vital documentation such as certificates of services rendered or requests for provisional assignments. Their role ensures that paperwork is fast and efficient, something that is in everyone's interest.
The role of Staff Education in Madrid is manifested in several important programs:
Personal and Family Accompaniment and Guidance Units
Funded by the European Union, this program is a life-saver for students in vulnerable situations, helping them to improve their academic and emotional performance.
Mental Health Program in Educational Centers
Due to the growing need to address the emotional well-being of students, the Community of Madrid has deployed specialized mental health counselors. In my experience, I have seen how these programs really make a difference, not only in academic performance, but also in the students' lives outside the classroom.
The system is not perfect. Administrative problems and lack of adequate staffing are real barriers. In this regard, my personal experience indicates that:
Lack of Resources:
Although staff try to do their best, budgetary constraints affect educational quality. Sometimes, what we need is simply more hands and more minds.
Staff Turnover:
A key problem I have observed is teacher and staff turnover in centers. This affects student stability and hinders continuity in program implementation.
Need for More Continuing Education:
While teachers are trained professionals, education is not a static field. New pedagogical methods and approaches are constantly appearing, and it is crucial that teachers are up-to-date.
Education in Madrid is constantly changing, and the educational staff has to adapt. At the institutional level, the Community of Madrid has implemented training initiatives and recruitment of new staff, but there is always room for improvement. As someone who has spent years in the sector, my hope is that the system will continue to evolve towards a more inclusive approach tailored to the individual needs of each student.
Madrid, Spain.
The faculties embrace diverse academic disciplines and fields of study, opening doors to new perspectives and exploring different spheres of wisdom in a constantly evolving world.
