If we talk about the Faculty of Health Sciences, I assure you that it is not just a place full of laboratories and endless anatomy classes. It is much more than that! And believe me, I speak from experience. I have been lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you see it) to be closely linked to this faculty throughout my life. So, if you're wondering if this is your place or just want to know what it's all about, here I tell you about it!.
First things first, the Faculty of Health Sciences is where the professionals in charge of taking care of your physical and mental health are trained. We are talking about doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, dentists, nutritionists and many more professions that, sooner or later, you are going to need. Come on, who hasn't had to go to the doctor at some point? These types of careers have a high labor demand and a fundamental presence in any society.
Generally speaking, the health sciences focus on human wellness. And it is not only about treating diseases, but also about promoting health, preventing problems and improving quality of life. It sounds important, doesn't it? Well, it is, and that's why this faculty is full of people with a true vocation.
If saving lives is what you're interested in, here's a varied menu. Medicine, of course, is the most popular. I don't need to explain what a doctor does, do I But it's not the only option. Nursing, for example, is a career with a strong presence in hospitals and clinics, and professionals in this area have the most contact with patients. They are the ones who are always there, at the foot of the barrel.
Another option is Physiotherapy, which focuses on rehabilitation and treatment of physical injuries. If you've ever had to see a physiotherapist, you know what I'm talking about: they're those wizards who help you get back to moving like before after an injury.
And if you're more of a lab person, Biotechnology is perfect for you. This is where biology, chemistry and engineering blend to create new medical solutions. You've heard of vaccines?
I'll tell you one thing: studying at a Faculty of Health Sciences isn't for everyone. If you are one of those who faint at the sight of a drop of blood, this may not be your best option. But if you like helping people, if you feel a genuine interest in improving the lives of others, then this may be the path for you.
And it's not just about how noble the profession is. These careers offer high employability. There will always be people who need medical care, so there is always a demand for professionals in these areas. In addition, many universities offer international programs, which will allow you to train abroad and broaden your professional horizons.
This is where I get a little more personal. Throughout my life, I have had multiple encounters with this faculty. From close family members who have studied here, to myself having been very close to the microbiology labs and the endless theoretical classes in pathophysiology. The funny thing is that, even if one is not directly a student of this faculty, life leads you to cross paths with it again and again.
I have realized that the people who study here have something special. It's not just their ability to learn tons of scientific information (which is saying something), but their empathy and their vocation for service. Those two things are not learned in books; they are carried inside. And if you feel you can have those qualities, believe me, this is the place where you can develop them.
Diversity. That is what makes the Faculty of Health Sciences special. No matter if you are interested in research, patient care, hospital management or disease prevention. You will find your place here. And I tell you that I have seen firsthand how professionals from different areas collaborate to find solutions to complex problems.
Another key aspect is the constant evolution of this area. Health sciences are not static. Every year there are new discoveries, new technologies, and that keeps professionals constantly learning. If you're someone who hates monotony, this is the field for you.
Only you can decide, but if anything I've told you has resonated with you, then it may well be your path. It's not easy, it's true. The studies are long, the internships are demanding and the responsibility is enormous. But the personal satisfaction of knowing you're making a difference in people's lives is priceless.
So, if you're willing to face years of study, but with the promise of an exciting and ever-in-demand career, then welcome. The Faculty of Health Sciences is waiting for you.
The faculties embrace diverse academic disciplines and fields of study, opening doors to new perspectives and exploring different spheres of wisdom in a constantly evolving world.
