Throughout my career (and a few personal adventures), I have had the opportunity to see how engineering not only solves problems, but also transforms the world. So if you're interested in knowing what engineering is, what types there are and why it's so important, this article is for you.

What are engineering

In a nutshell, engineering is the science of solving problems. It is the art of combining technical knowledge, creativity and a little bit of "magic", to create solutions that change our lives. From a bridge that crosses a river to the design of an app that reminds you to drink water, everything has the hand of an engineer.

Did you know that the word "engineering" comes from the Latin word ingenium, meaning ingenuity?This already tells us that being an engineer is not just about numbers; it's also about innovation and vision.

The Branches of Engineering: More Than You Imagine

When we say "engineering," people usually think of construction or factories. But the reality is that engineering is as diverse as the stars in the sky. Here's a look at some of the most prominent branches:

Civil Engineering
It's the one that deals with infrastructure: bridges, roads, buildings, dams, and more! Basically, if you live in a city, you have a civil engineer to thank.

Computer Engineering
We live in a digital world, right? Here enter these geniuses who develop software, applications, and computer systems that make our lives easier.

My personal experience with engineering

This is where I get a little nostalgic. My first brush with engineering was almost by accident. I was helping a friend fix some farm machinery, and I ended up designing a makeshift part out of an old toolbox and some metal.
