UNAM Law School: A Personal Journey through its History and Legacy

Hello! I'm Pablo García, and today I want to take you by the hand through a journey full of anecdotes and fascinating facts about the Law School of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). From my days as a student to my professional life, this institution has been a constant in my path. So, make yourself comfortable and join me on this journey.

The First Steps: The Royal and Pontifical University of Mexico

To understand the greatness of the Law School, it is essential to go back to September 21, 1551, when the Royal and Pontifical University of Mexico was founded.

In its beginnings, chairs of Theology, Writing, Canons, Law, Arts, Rhetoric and Grammar were taught. Imagine the first students, without their own libraries, resorting to convents in search of knowledge. What times those were!

The Evolution towards the National School of Jurisprudence

Let's move forward a few centuries. In 1868, the National School of Jurisprudence was born,

offering law and notary degrees. The professorships ranged from Natural Law to Political Economy. It was a time of transformation and modernization, adapting to the needs of a constantly changing Mexico.

The Transformation into a Law School

On March 29, 1955, the National School of Jurisprudence was elevated to the category of Faculty of Law.

This change allowed the granting of higher academic degrees and consolidated its position as a leader in legal studies in the country. The facilities in Ciudad Universitaria, intended for 3,000 students, today house more than 10,000 students and a faculty of more than 1,000 professors. Impressive!

My Personal Experience

I remember my first day at the Faculty. The hallways filled with passionate students, heated debates about jurisprudence, and professors who inspired respect and admiration. I participated in seminars, workshops and, of course, in the legendary get-togethers in the central cafeteria. Every corner of the School has a story, and each story is a brick in the construction of my career.
