What Is Political Science?

Let me tell you how I got into this exciting field. From a young age, I was always intrigued by how decisions that affected my community were made. That curiosity led me to study political science at university, where I discovered a universe full of theories, debates and, above all, the possibility of understanding and, perhaps, influencing the direction of society.

Branches of Political Science

Political science encompasses several areas of study, each focused on specific aspects of politics. Some of the main branches are:

Political Theory: It focuses on the study of political ideas and concepts, such as justice, freedom, equality and democracy. It analyzes the works of classical and contemporary thinkers to understand how they have influenced the configuration of current societies.

Comparative Politics: Analyzes and compares the political systems of different countries to identify similarities and differences, and understand how and why they function in certain ways.

International Relations: Studies the interactions between states and other actors in the global arena, including topics such as diplomacy, international conflicts, cooperation and supranational organizations.

Public Administration: Focuses on the study of state institutions and administrative processes, analyzing how public policies are implemented and how public resources are managed.

Public Policy: Analyzes the process of creating, implementing and evaluating policies designed to solve public problems. It studies how government decisions are formulated and their impact on society.
