IMSS Rights Validity: Everything You Need to Know

IMSS Rights Validity: Everything You Need to Know

Hello! Today I want to talk to you about a topic that, although it may sound bureaucratic, is fundamental for all workers in Mexico: the vigilation of IMSS rights. Throughout my working life, I have had several experiences with this issue, and I want to share with you what I have learned. So, make yourself comfortable, here we go.

What is IMSS Vigencia de Derechos del IMSS?

First, let's cut to the chase. The vigilance of rights of the IMSS refers to the state in which a worker has access to the services and benefits offered by the Mexican Social Security Institute. In other words, it is the confirmation that you are active in the system and can enjoy its benefits.

Why is it Important?

Imagine you need medical attention and, upon arriving at the hospital, you are told that you cannot receive it because your rights are not current. A real headache! Maintaining the validity of your rights ensures you access to medical services, disability, pensions and other benefits offered by the IMSS.

How to Verify the Validity of Rights?

Here is a simple step-by-step guide for you to verify your validity:

Go to the IMSS Portal: Visit the official IMSS website and look for the "Digital Services" section.

Access the "Rights Validity Consultation": Here you will be asked for some information, such as your Social Security Number (NSS) and CURP.

Check your Status: Once you have entered the data, the system will show you whether your rights are valid or not.

Factors Affecting the Validity of Rights

It is crucial to understand what can affect your validity:

Interruption in Contributions: If you stop contributing to IMSS for more than 8 weeks, your rights can be suspended.

Change of Employment: When changing jobs, make sure that your new employer registers you correctly with the IMSS.

Modalities of Work: If you are self-employed or a fee-based worker, consider registering voluntarily to maintain your rights.

My Personal Experience

Let me tell you an anecdote. A few years ago, I changed jobs and, unsuspecting, did not check my entitlement status. One day, I needed medical attention and, to my surprise, I was informed that I was not active in the system. It turns out that my new employer had not done the procedure correctly. Since then, I always check my status after any job change.

What To Do If Your Rights Are Not Current

If you discover that your rights are not current, don't panic. Here are some steps to follow:

Contact your Employer: Make sure they have registered you correctly.

Go to the IMSS Subdelegation: Take your documents and ask for a review of your case.

Consider Modality 40: If you are unemployed, you can opt for this modality to continue contributing voluntarily.

Benefits of Maintaining the Validity of Rights

Maintaining your rights in force gives you peace of mind and access to:

Medical Services: Care in IMSS clinics and hospitals.

Disabilities: Subsidies in case of illness or accident.

Pensions: Right to a disability, old age or unemployment pension.

Conclusion

The Monitoring of IMSS rights is an issue that we should not take lightly. Keeping ourselves informed and proactive ensures that we enjoy the benefits that, as workers, we are entitled to. Don't wait until a problem arises; check your status regularly and keep your data updated.

I hope this information is useful to you. See you next time!
