Hello! I'm Amadeo Pérez, and today I want to talk to you about two fundamental pillars of our existence: health and social life. Throughout my years, I have learned that these aspects are intrinsically linked and that, by taking care of them, we can achieve a fuller and more satisfying life. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), health implies not only the absence of disease, but a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being.
When we think of health, we tend to focus on the physical: a balanced diet, regular exercise and visits to the doctor. However, health is a broader concept that encompasses the mental and social as well. Maintaining good all-round health implies that the physical, mental and social areas are in harmony.
Social life refers to our interactions with family, friends, co-workers and the community at large. These relationships are essential to our well-being and can positively influence our health.
Let me share a personal anecdote. A few years ago, I went through a period of isolation due to illness. During that time, I realized how vital it is to maintain an active social life. Visits from friends, phone calls and small gestures of affection had a positive impact on my recovery. Studies have shown that people with a strong support system are at less risk for cognitive decline and dementia.
Immune System Enhancement: People who spend their days alone, isolated, have more stress hormones and weakened immunity. By interacting with your community, your body responds positively, strengthening your immunity.
Cardiovascular Health: Developing deeper bonds and relationships with others has been shown to reduce the risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease.
Increased Life Expectancy: An active social life can increase your life expectancy. Studies have shown a strong relationship between a lower mortality rate and social well-being.
Health and social life are two sides of the same coin. By cultivating meaningful relationships and staying active in our community, we not only improve our quality of life, but also strengthen our overall health. Remember, it's never too late to start building and nurturing your social connections - your well-being will thank you for it!
