Hello! I'm Carlos Hidalgo, and today I want to talk to you about a topic that has been fundamental in my life: physical exercise. Over the years, I have experienced firsthand the benefits and challenges of maintaining a physical activity routine. Let me share with you my experiences and insights into this exciting world.
Physical exercise is defined as any activity that involves bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles and results in an expenditure of energy. This includes everything from everyday activities such as walking or climbing stairs, to more structured sports and workouts.
Since I was young, sport has been a constant in my life. I remember my first runs in the park, afternoons playing soccer with friends and gym sessions in search of a better version of myself. But it wasn't always easy to stay motivated and consistent. There were moments of doubt, injuries and periods of discouragement. However, every time I resumed physical activity, I felt a renewal of energy and well-being that pushed me to keep going.
Throughout my career, I have been able to see the countless benefits that exercise brings to our health:
Improved cardiovascular health: The heart is a muscle that, when exercised regularly, is strengthened, improving blood circulation and reducing the risk of heart disease.
Body weight control: Physical activity helps burn calories, making it easier to maintain or lose weight, depending on the goal.
Muscle and bone strengthening: Resistance exercises increase muscle mass and bone density, preventing diseases such as osteoporosis.
Improved mood: Exercise releases endorphins, the so-called happiness hormones, which fight stress and depression.
Increased energy: A regular exercise routine improves the efficiency of the cardiovascular system, providing more energy for daily activities.
It is important to diversify activities for full benefits. Here are some types of exercise that I have incorporated into my routine:
Aerobic exercise: Activities such as running, swimming or cycling that increase heart rate and improve endurance.
Strength training: Weight lifting or body weight exercises that strengthen muscles.
Flexibility and balance: Practices such as yoga or tai chi that improve mobility and prevent injuries.
I won't lie to you, maintaining a consistent exercise routine isn't always a bed of roses. I've faced multiple challenges: from injuries that sidelined me for weeks at a time, to the dreaded lack of motivation that causes us to postpone training over and over again. But you know what? Each obstacle overcome has made me stronger and more aware of the importance of exercise in my life.
Over the years, I've learned a few strategies that have helped me stay active:
Set realistic goals: Don't try to run a marathon without having trained beforehand. Start with small goals and increase them progressively.
Find an activity you enjoy: Whether it's dancing, swimming or martial arts, the important thing is that you have fun while exercising.
Create a routine: Set fixed schedules for your workouts and stick to them as if they were unavoidable appointments.
Find company: Working out with friends or joining groups can increase your motivation and commitment.
It's not just my personal experience that supports the benefits of exercise. Recent studies have shown that regular physical activity can slow the progression of certain types of cancer and reduce the risk of death in cancer patients.
In addition, experts at Harvard University highlight sports such as swimming, tai chi and walking as excellent options for staying fit without extreme exertion.
Exercise is an investment in your health and well-being. No matter what age or physical condition you are in, it is always a good time to start. My experience has taught me that, although the path may be full of challenges, the benefits far outweigh any obstacles. So, put on your sneakers, find an activity you're passionate about and start your journey to a healthier, more fulfilling life today.
