SAE Employment: What no one tells you (and what you need to know)

SAE Employment: What no one tells you (and what you need to know)

Have you ever felt that looking for a job is more complicated than putting together a piece of furniture without instructions? Well, welcome to the world of the Servicio Andaluz de Empleo (SAE). Here I tell you my personal experience -yes, that of a survivor of the job search through the SAE- and I will explain, without mincing words, what it is and how it can help you.

What is the SAE and what does it offer?

The Servicio Andaluz de Empleo (SAE) is the agency in charge of managing everything related to employment in Andalusia. From searching for offers to managing your labor demand, this system can be your ally... or your worst nightmare, if you don't know how to use it.

To begin with, the SAE does not get you a job directly. What it does is connect job seekers with available job offers, in addition to offering training to improve your professional profile. On its website and app you can:

  • Register as a job seeker.
  • Renew your application (every 90 days!).
  • Modify your personal or professional data.
  • Consult and register for active job offers.
  • Access free training courses.

My history with the SAE: between frustrations and victories

I tell you from experience: the SAE does not work magic, but it can be useful if you learn how to take advantage of it. My first mistake? Thinking that just by signing up I'd already be showered with job offers. Spoiler alert: it wasn't like that.

The first thing you need to do is make sure your profile is complete and up-to-date. Why Because companies are looking for specific candidates and, if you haven't added your latest training or experience, you won't even show up in their search filters. This happened to me several times until I learned how to optimize my profile as if it were an online resume.

The SAE technology: web and app

The SAE has modernized its system with a website and an app. From here you can manage practically everything without leaving home. But, be warned, the experience is not always smooth. Some procedures require patience - and perhaps a couple of attempts - due to technical glitches. However, if you do it right, you can avoid endless queues at their offices.

    • Practical advice: Use the Cl@ve system or digital certificate to identify yourself. It's faster and more secure than the classic password.

Training and employability: the strengths of the SAE

If there's one thing I value about the SAE, it's its catalog of free courses. During a period of unemployment, I enrolled in a digital skills course and a language course, which improved my professional profile considerably. Don't underestimate this resource. Some courses even include internships in companies, a golden opportunity to expand your network.

Common mistakes when using the SAE

    1. Not renewing the job application: If you don't renew on time, you'll lose access to offers and benefits. Set an alarm on your cell phone; renewal is usually quarterly.
    2. Incomplete profiles: Be sure to include education, experience and job preferences.
    3. Not checking offers regularly: Many offers have short registration deadlines, so check the app at least once a week.

    Is the SAE for everyone?

While the SAE offers useful tools, it is not a magic bullet. You must be proactive, keep your profile up to date and seek constant training. At times, the system seems designed more for companies than for workers, but if you understand how it works, you can get the most out of it.
