Educa UNIVERSITY|ART AND ARCHITECTURE
Ah, the Fine Arts! It seems a very sophisticated term, but I assure you that you have lived them without realizing it. I am Pablo García and, throughout my life, I have been fortunate to be surrounded by art, that which makes you feel, vibrate, think big. And here I tell you how the Fine Arts have marked me, from the most intimate of my experience, to what I have learned researching and living them.
The Fine Arts are a combination of artistic disciplines whose main objective is to represent beauty. So simple and complex at the same time! We are talking about disciplines that touch the soul: architecture, dance, sculpture, music, painting, literature and cinema, one of the most recent additions. Each of them has the power to move, to make you see the world from another angle.
When we talk about Fine Arts, we refer to a group of artistic expressions that historically have been valued for their ability to transcend over time. They are universal and seek the eternal, that which connects us as human beings.
The first time I felt that artistic pinch was when I saw a play at my school. Yes, theater. A performing art that combines acting, music, and, sometimes, scenery that leaves you speechless. I remember sitting there, watching the actors create worlds with their gestures and voices. Something inside me changed forever. From then on, art not only entertained me, but it made me feel, a sensation that still accompanies me in every corner of my life.
Let's get down to business. Each of the Fine Arts has its own charm and mystery. Here I give you a tour of them, based on both my personal experience and what I've learned doing research. And don't worry, this is not a boring art class, I promise.
It is the art of creating spaces. From the majesty of the Roman Colosseum to modern skyscrapers, architecture not only builds, it shapes the way we live. My first contact with architecture was on a trip to Barcelona, when I came across Gaudí's Sagrada Familia. What madness! Every corner was alive, every detail had soul.
Here we talk about movement and expression. Watching a body tell stories with its movements is impressive. I remember attending a classical ballet and being transfixed. How the dancers, with simple steps, were able to convey a whole range of emotions. Dance is, without a doubt, pure magic in motion.
The three-dimensional art at its best. I have been lucky enough to see sculptures up close in different museums around the world. It's amazing how a piece of marble can seem alive, almost breathe. Michelangelo's David is perfection itself.
Who hasn't ever felt the power of a good song? Music is the art that most accompanies our daily lives, from that moment when you take a shower humming, to when you dance non-stop at a party. Mozart, Beethoven, Queen, no matter the style, they are all connected by the beauty of melody.
Ah, painting. My first crush was on a work by Monet, when I still didn't understand anything about art. How could something as simple as colors on a canvas provoke so much in my heart? The art of painting is not only about representing the world as you see it, but creating new worlds.
The written word is also art. Think of those books that have changed your life. For me it was One Hundred Years of Solitude by García Márquez. His prose is so rich that each sentence is a work of art in itself. Literature doesn't just tell stories, it creates universes.
Last but not least, the cinema. The most recent of the Fine Arts, but no less powerful for that. How many times have you left the cinema with your heart in your hand? The seventh art combines the best of all the other arts: music, acting, literature. It is the perfect synthesis.
I have learned that the Fine Arts don't just exist to be admired; their true power is in what they teach us. They show us what it means to be human, they connect us to our deepest emotions and to each other. Whether through a film, a building, a song or a novel, art speaks to us without words, it reminds us of what we are and what we can become.
Over the years, I have come to realize that the Fine Arts are not only there to entertain us. They are a form of resistance, of struggle against the ephemeral. We live in a world full of noise, where beauty is often lost in the chaos. But art, true art, is always there, resisting the passage of time, reminding us of the eternal.
After so many experiences, I can safely say that art has been my guide. Without art, life would be a mistake, as Nietzsche said. Fine Arts are a way to see the world with different eyes, to capture the beauty in the everyday and to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary.
If you have not yet immersed yourself in the world of Fine Arts, I invite you to do so. You don't need to be an expert to enjoy a good movie, an incredible painting, or a majestic building. You just need to open your eyes and your heart.
You just need to open your eyes and your heart.
