Why choose Bullying Escolar?

School bullying is not a new issue, but its impact continues to echo in every classroom. Maybe it rings a bell: insults, blows, taunts... Sometimes subtle, sometimes direct. The worrying thing is that it is not always noticeable to the naked eye. And worse, it's often not even talked about. But do you know exactly what school bullying is and how we can fight it?

The Basics: What Is It?

School bullying is a form of violence, often repetitive, where one or more people seek to exert power over another through physical, psychological or social aggression. It doesn't matter if it happens in the playground, on social networks or during a class; its effect is just as damaging.

Why does it happen? The reasons vary: insecurities, a desire to fit in or simply, a lack of education in empathy. What is certain is that no one is free from experiencing it, whether as a victim, witness or even, without realizing it, as an aggressor.

Types of Bullying

  1. Physical: Hitting, pushing or any bodily aggression.
  2. Psychological: It affects self-esteem through insults or manipulation.
  3. Social: Exclusion, rumors, preventing someone from being part of a group.
  4. Cyber: Anything that happens in the digital realm: hurtful messages, offensive posts or online threats.

Each type has its own severity and consequences. Some leave visible scars, others invisible marks that remain for years.

The Consequences

Bullying doesn't just affect the victims. It also impacts those who witness it by encouraging the normalization of violence. Victims often develop self-esteem problems, depression and in extreme cases, self-destructive thoughts. For aggressors, although less evident, the lack of intervention can reinforce antisocial behaviors, generating more serious problems in the long term.

How to Combat It: Prevention is Key

  1. Educate empathy and values from a young age: School programs that foster inclusion and respect are fundamental.
  2. Active listening: Both parents and teachers must be alert to any sign of bullying, whether it is a change in behavior, isolation or poor school performance.
  3. Encourage reporting: Breaking the fear of "snitching" is vital. To report is not to betray; it is to protect.
  4. Clear laws and protocols: Schools must have specific procedures in place to deal with cases of bullying.
